Washed the clothes this evening, all by lonesome, ie, after Mother helped me sort. (Someone was parked in from of the house for a while, I think).

Harriett, B & I went over to see 'Beanie' this noon. Dorothy was pallbearer at the funeral this afternoon. I stayed home this evening and did some ironing.

Rhea called me on the telephone this noon and told me 'Beanie' Camp, Dick and 2 other kids had been killed in an auto-train crash. I'm so sorry, because I sure liked 'Beanie'. It hardly seems possible.

Went to S.S. this morning. Cleaned out our desk later. Howard called me up this afternoon and I cancelled out date for tonight and all other dates following.
I stayed home tonight for a while, read "Round the Corner in Gay Street" (1908, Grace S. Richmond and available via Amazon and Barnes and Noble). Rhea and I went for a little ride.

H took me to work this morning. Worked till after 6 tonight, Howard waited & took me home. Father told him it was too late last night. He came up tonight and we went to the Strand to see "While the City Sleeps" with Lon Chaney.

The "Maas Co" opened today - a ladies ready-to-wear store & Louise and went down. Very good looking.
We washed clothes tonight (Dorothy & I) & I hung part of them in the attic.
Mother was making jell so I helped her a bi then washed dishes . Got to be about 1:30

Showed me the pictures he took 'down home': his Mother, his Dog & his house, etc... I took Rhea and Alice to the library & put a hem in my blue dress. Got to be about 10:30. H. called me about 9:30

Mother, Father, Dorothy, Rhea and I canned peaches & pears tonight. Mother & I fixed the crabapples and elderberries for jelly & washed dishes, etc...
Got to bed about 12:30. Tired? Not at all!!
Couldn't find a vintage recipe for elderberry jelly so I will refer to Sure Jell
what you need
3cups prepared juice (buy about 6 qt. or 3 lb. fully ripe elderberries)
1/4cup fresh lemon juice
1box SURE-JELL Fruit Pectin
1/2tsp. butter or margarine
4-1/2cups sugar, measured into separate bowl
make it
BRING boiling-water canner, half full with water, to simmer. Wash jars and screw bands in hot soapy water; rinse with warm water. Pour boiling water over flat lids in saucepan off the heat. Let stand in hot water until ready to use. Drain well before filling.
REMOVE and discard large stems from elderberries. Crush fruit thoroughly; place in saucepan. Cook on medium heat until juice starts to flow, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 15 min., stirring occasionally. Place 3 layers of damp cheesecloth or jelly bag in large bowl. Pour prepared fruit into cheesecloth. Tie cheesecloth closed; hang and let drip into bowl until dripping stops. Press gently. Measure exactly 3 cups prepared juice into 6- or 8-qt. saucepot. (If necessary, add up to 1/2 cup water for exact measure.) Stir in lemon juice.
STIR pectin into juice in saucepot. Add butter to reduce foaming. Bring mixture to full rolling boil (a boil that doesn't stop bubbling when stirred) on high heat, stirring constantly. Stir in sugar. Return to full rolling boil and boil exactly 1 min., stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Skim off any foam with metal spoon.
LADLE immediately into prepared jars, filling to within 1/8 inch of tops. Wipe jar rims and threads. Cover with two-piece lids. Screw bands tightly. Place jars on elevated rack in canner. Lower rack into canner. (Water must cover jars by 1 to 2 inches. Add boiling water, if necessary.) Cover; bring water to gentle boil. Process 5 min. Remove jars and place upright on towel to cool completely. After jars cool, check seals by pressing middles of lids with finger. (If lids spring back, lids are not sealed and refrigeration is necessary.)
HOW TO MEASURE PRECISELY
To get exact level cup measures of sugar, spoon sugar into dry metal or plastic measuring cup, then level by scraping excess sugar from top of cup with a straight-edged knife.

Washed dishes, cleaned bathroom fixtures, cleaned out the dresser in the bathroom - made the beds, etc. Mother & I got the dinner. Father & Mr. D. got a 'carload' of fruit etc. I went after Mrs. D. & we had dinner here.
Louise & I went to the show tonight - Keith's - "The Cops" - not so awful bad. Got home about 12:00.

In the 1950’s, the Palace Theater became the home for Cinerama—a renovation that required the removal of 1,800 seats. Despite the initial success, the Palace Theater, and its neighbors, fell on hard times and the theater closed in 1969. The marquee was subsequently torn down and the theater was boarded up.
In 1970, the Playhouse Square Association was formed to save the Palace Theater and other nearby theaters, such as the Ohio and the Allen. The Palace Theater reopened in 1973 as a performing arts venue and is still part of the Playhouse Square group.
It remains a live theater and performing arts venue to this day.

Woke up at 8:15 today so I didn't make it to work till noon. They kidded me about staying out too late nights. I worked till about 6:30 tonight tho and Howard waited for me that long. D.B helped me too, after she was through.
Howard and I went to the Beach again tonight. It was awfully warm tonight. We got home about 12:45. I think I saw 'Dope' and 'Flops' out there too.

J.B. away on his vacation this week. I'm busy helping D.B. out. (got a ride downtown this morn - Mr. Kelly)
Rhea and I went to the Strand, matinee, to see Billie Dove in "The Night Watch" - good.
Howard 'delivered' us and picked us up again. Rhea and I stopped at the library - then Rhea went home and H & I went to the beach - too early - came home, went back again to see the prize fights - they're all right but awful amateurish. This is 'mardi gras' week - last week at the beach.
Today is the first day of school.

Came back about 11:30. I had my dinner and made a bed. We went up to the track to see the auto-race; got there about 2:00 and the race started about 3:30. We took some pictures. Got home about 6:00, had supper here, we both washed dishes - then went for a ride - took my 'bike' along.

Louise and I got up, had breakfast then went to her church, i.e. where she plays the organ - The Arlington ME, then went to her sisters for dinner. While there got a call - Howard called at one. Called home, then Howard's but he wasn't there. Louise brit [sic] me home and we 'helped' with the pickle canning a little bit.
About 4:30 L.A. and I went to Brady Lake, met Howard on the way out, he as on his way back. He was very disappointed. We 3 went swimming then home. H & I went to the Falls. Saw William Haines in "Telling the World". It was very good. HAd a good time. Stow sure is the ticket.

Was a half-hour late for work this morning - Father took me down. Howard called me, then came after me this noon. Father had (unreadable) a to-do about the jars - then went to work. Howard took me down after them then brit [sic] me home and after the Ford. Service is the word.
Rhea and I went to town and met Dorothy and we picked out a lamp for Mother. Went to the store after we got home. Louise came after me and we went to Springfield to the dance. Terrible fire in East Akron - some reclaiming plant. I stayed with Louise tonight - had a good time.

Fire at Lowenthall Reclaiming (rubber) plant. One man killed, eight houses destroyed. Damage was estimated at $500,000.
